The Tea Station

is a pilot project being run by Shademakers UK Carnival Club, in the grounds of our workshop, Castleworks, in Wroxall, Isle of Wight.

Due to a major fire in neighbouring buildings the Tea Station is currently closed until further notice.

The aim is to create a community space where people can gather, talk and relax. It is hoped this will stimulate new friendships, inspiration, ideas and an improved sense of community.

Themes of recycling and consideration of the environment will run through and be integral to the project. There will be planting areas and a gardening group as well as the opportunity to share produce, plants, seeds and gardening tips.

A self-serve tea station will be open to members of ShademakersUK and the general public, with an honesty box for donations. There will be seating available both inside and outside, with a large canopy providing shelter from both rain and sun.

There will be a series of informal talks, workshops and discussion sessions. The Station will also be available for donations to other community groups wanting to use the space.

Volunteers are wanted to help develop the site. We particularly need those with experience of container gardens, upholstery and upcycling, and those with basic carpentry skills.

We also want volunteers to come and chat, help keep the place looking welcoming etc.

This project was made possible thanks to an Awards for All Grant from the Big Lottery.

Thanks to Community Action IW for supporting us in our grant application.
